Fabriq™ Smart Speaker
An app for pairing and managing smart speakers
The Fabriq wi-fi smart speaker was one of the first third-party products to launch with integrated Amazon Alexa voice assistant. My part in the project was to design an app to facilitate pairing with the speakers, managing multi-room audio, and connecting to Alexa.
Competitive Analysis & User Flow
I began the project with a deep dive into the apps of Wifi speakers from competitors such as Sonos and Amazon Alexa to understand their approach and any differences. I also combed product reviews looking for any common complaints regarding the setup process. Based on this analysis, I developed an initial user flow to visualize all of the screens and features required for the product
Wireframing
Starting with low-fidelity sketches, I developed a rough idea for the content and layout for each screen, as well as the interactions required to navigate through them. As things took shape I moved on to mid-fidelity digital wireframes to finalize the app architecture.
Style Guide & UI Development
Building upon existing branding for the physical product, I built out a style guide for consistency across the app and any future updates. I created an icon set and specifications for text and headings, CTAs, etc.
Result
After handoff to our development partner and some back and forth, the app was put through testing/debugging before launching alongside Fabriq, the first third-party Alexa-enabled speaker on the market.
